Apologizing is a skill children often struggle with due to feelings of shame. Forcing apologies can exacerbate this shame and prevent genuine remorse. Instead, parents should model empathy, help children understand others' emotions, and provide opportunities for practice. Encouraging empathy reduces shame and makes sincere apologies more likely. Teaching authentic apologies involves expressing regret, validating emotions, admitting responsibility, and seeking solutions. This process takes time, but with patience and support, children learn to offer meaningful apologies.
