April 20, 2020 SolBe Families, More often than not, I set out with one idea for a project and somehow end up somewhere completely different…how similar to life! Whilst in a deep scroll on Instagram, I found the most lovely, child-friendly, dreamcatcher inspiration. "What a perfect project," I thought! Beautiful, nature-based, and perfect for our kids. The joke was on me. As you can see…this is not a dreamcatcher. This is a craft pizza. The moral: sometimes, we set out to make a lovely, whimsical, dreamcatcher and we end up with a craft pizza and pom-pom pepperoni toppings. Enjoy the process, not the outcome…just as we encourage our kiddies to! Project of the Day for All Ages: Craft Pizza Surprise!
Materials
Cardboard Plate (or any item to outline a circle)
Markers
Feathers/Felt/Stickers/Pom-Poms (Anything!)
Step One
This project is the most flexible! Any materials will do. Have the kiddos dream up possible options for creative toppings. What would be fun to put on a pizza? You can make several templates and take orders with different people in the household. Elements of pretend play work wonderfully here!
Step Two
After using a dinner plate in the hopes of creating a perfect circle, cut the cardboard. We used pipe-cleaners, stickers, pom-poms, and feathers! Glue or tape can be used to secure the toppings. I used a glue gun to fasten everything in a speedy fashion, but any means will work.
Step Three
Another idea would be to color the pizza and then apply the toppings. Get creative! Anything goes!
Step Four
Cut the pieces into one or many slices—this can be a fun puzzle for younger babes. I love the idea of cutting one slice as I am reminded of an all-time favorite, "The Missing Piece Meets the Big O", by Shel Silverstein. You can click this link to listen online if you do not have a copy at home. Most important direction, as always: HAVE FUN!
More resources to follow in the coming days. Feedback and more ideas welcome, as always! Be well and stay healthy! The SolBe Team
