What can make a sound? Model by clicking kitchen utensils (for example, two spoons!), or wooden spoons and pots or pans!Materials- Anything you can find at home!- Wooden spoons- Pots and pans- Boxes- Paper towel rolls as drum sticks- Empty water bottles- Empty water gallons- PaintOption 1: Set up a space for your child to explore all the items you gathered from your house and invite them to explore the different sounds!Option 2: If you have paint available, provide your child with empty water bottles, empty milk cartons, or any other container and invite him/her to decorate their instrument with paint. Once dry, make some fun sounds!Reflections for ParentsIt can get (a little!) noisy. Before starting the activity come to an agreement of which is the space you will use. Creating spaces is important so children have the freedom to explore, move, and engage in what they are doing without worrying about what "is not allowed." This is the difference between having freedom vs. no limits! You can be as flexible as you would like, just share the agreement with your child! "We can be as loud as we want, in the kitchen/playroom/yard."As you work on your project, make connections with the story: "Do you remember when..." "This sounds like the...from the book!" At the end of the activity, display your child's production in a special place! For our older friends, you can say: Can you sign it?
