May 4, 2020 SolBe Families, I am declaring this week “GRATITUDE WEEK” . Inspired by showing our educators and nurses appreciation, I have decided to spend each day this week spreading the attitude of gratitude. How can we express our gratitude with a little Montessori flare?
Enjoy this (under 2 minutes for set-up!!) dandelion print project. Who would we like to treat to a beautiful flower? Is there someone or something we are thankful for? Someone or something that makes us happy or feels warm and good inside? You can pair this project with a favorite (and a #sloaneyapproved pick), “ Dandy “ by Ame Dykman. It’s a lovely story and the reading I linked on YouTube is quite fun… co-narrated by a very funny lion puppet.
Project of the Day: Gratitude Dandelion Prints
Materials
Paper
Paint
Cue-tips
Marker or Pen
Step One
Lay out the paper. Older kiddos can work on drawing the stem and the seed head (top of the dandy) with a pen or marker. It can be nice to draw an example for them to work off of, or show them a picture of a dandelion to model. Set up a nice glob of yellow paint and lay out 2-3 Q-tips.
Step Two
Use the Q-tip to dot the yellow flower petals on top of the dandelion. Younger friends will enjoy this “dotting exercise”. Picking up and handling the small Q-tip is yet another fine motor skills development exercise. Most important direction, as always: HAVE FUN!
More resources to follow in the coming days.
Feedback and more ideas welcome!
Above all, be well and stay healthy!
