SolBe Families,
Looking for fun, guided outdoor activities? Tinkergarten is a fantastic resource. I love the idea of taking a " Listening Walk ." You may also enjoy " Make Music Like Wee Wild Things ." For a chance to enjoy the fresh air, they recommend starting with a rhythmic poem (suggested: Grassy Grass Gras s by Woody Guthrie). We know our friends are having "the wiggles" by the afternoon at home. Our top recommendation is always to get outside (of course, whilst still adhering to social distancing). Post-strolling could be a fun time to enjoy delicious homemade ice cream…recipe below!
We are continuing our PPE drive to be donated to BIDMC please email marlo@solbelearning.com if you have any equipment that you would like to donate.
Project of the Day
Infants & Toddlers: Rainbow "Painting" from Following My Child and BusyBeanBean
A wonderful way to make tummy time more enjoyable! Set this activity in front of them and watch the magic!
"????DIY Wall art and suncatchers???? This is a 2 in 1 mess-free paint activity you can easily do! ???????? Using a plastic bag helps if you don't want to deal with all the mess. In my case, I wasn't worried about the mess, but because L still puts things in his mouth. Due to the unpredictable and hard days we are all living, we went with a rainbow painting as a symbol of hope?.. Now that I have it displayed on top of L's shelf it just does something magical to our place. Every time I look at it I have to smile ??"
*You can tape the bag down on both or all sides to anything to stabilize it.
Project of the Day Older Toddlers & Preschoolers: Make Your Own Ice Cream from Cup of Jo
I'm hopelessly uncrafty, so many of the kids' activities circulating around the internet are out of my wheelhouse. But! We found this very easy way to make your own ice cream (no machine required) and it was such a fun thing to do with little dudes. Here's how…
First, gather your ingredients: 1 cup half and half, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 tbsp sugar, lots of ice, 1/3 cup of salt, toppings (optional)
Mix half and half, vanilla and sugar in a small ziplock bag. Put ice and salt into a large ziplock bag. Put the small bag into the larger bag, and seal both bags. Shake (a lot!) for about 10 minutes, until the liquid has turned into ice cream. The kids had the best time doing this!
That's it! Then serve with your favorite toppings. I couldn't believe how delicious the ice cream was and how easy the activity was. If I can do it, anyone can. :)
More resources to follow in the coming days. Feedback and more ideas welcome, as always!
Be well and stay healthy!
