His 30-minute class is enjoyable for children and parents alike! Union Square play has free "on-demand" access for all materials (fantastic!!), so your family can watch or listen at your leisure. If you have an animal-lover at home, the Cincinnati Zoo has a free home safari available. Hugs & Bugs is hosting a free virtual "Belly Babies" for our families with babes 0-6 months. Parents chat while babies stretch, enjoy tummy time, and are offered various sensory materials.
Project of the Day for all ages!Crazy Art from Silvana Carpio"Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else" – Sydney Gurewitz ClemensPainting with children has always been a fun thing to do—for most of them! Some of them carefully approach the paint with a face and scream "yuck!" Others make connections with food or yummy textures and spread them on their face with the intention to get just a little bit in their mouth! Educators are there to enjoy their masterpieces and celebrate their process of creating art!
Take this opportunity to present paint with different tools and see what their imagination takes them.Materials- Small containers, ice tray, muffin tray or anything you have at home to pour some paint- Paint brushes- Small balls (you can also make your own with aluminum foil)- A box or tray (that you don't mind getting a "little" messy)Option 1Pour a little bit of paint in your containers (or any of the choices mentioned above). Tape the paper to the floor so it doesn't move too much. Invite your child to hold the paintbrush with a different part of their body. For example, they can hold the paintbrush with their feet or arm! Let them create what they wish.Option 2Tape the paper inside a box or tray. Pour some paint on top of the paper (let your child choose the colors). Drop the balls inside and start moving your tray and box from side to side. Observe how the balls create lines, textures and the colors mix with each other. Continue moving the box for as long as you wish. You can also add more paint and colors!Reflections for ParentsBefore starting the project, share with your child what you will be working on. Follow your child's pace. It may not be a day for an art project, and that's ok. When exploring the different options (1 or 2), ask your child:- How did it feel moving the box from side to side?- How did it feel to use a brush with a different part of your body?- Can you describe what you made? What does it look like? When asking questions, model your own responses. Remember, you are a participant too! If you choose both options, you can ask:- How are these paintings different or the same?Enjoy and celebrate the process!More resources to follow in the coming days. Feedback and more ideas welcome, as always!Be well and stay healthy! The SolBe Team
